Monday Newsletter: NFL Draft top-5 shakeup, Cam Ward breaks a record, and Carson Beck declares
Back from the holidays, let's get to it!
Another day, another 2025 NFL Draft newsletter! In today’s edition, we take a look at how the Week 17 slate of games affected the draft order and some news on two quarterbacks in Cam Ward and Carson Beck.
Getting back into the swing of things, we will have four more newsletters to look forward to this week, as well as some other content set to hit your inboxes. For now, however, let’s roundup some of the most pertinent NFL Draft news from over the weekend.
Enjoy!
An updated 2025 NFL Draft order shakeup
The Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Giants won, while the Cleveland Browns lost. This has created a stir-up in the top-10 of the 2025 NFL Draft. With just one week left in the season, here is how the draft order currently lays out:
New England Patriots
Tennessee Titans
Cleveland Browns
New York Giants
Jacksonville Jaguars
Carolina Panthers
New York Jets
Las Vegas Raiders
Chicago Bears
New Orleans Saints
Entering the last week of the season, the Browns are massive underdogs to the Baltimore Ravens, the Patriots face the Buffalo Bills and the Titans face the Houston Texans. Both of those teams likely rest their starters. There is a real chance the Browns could finish with the top pick in the draft by season’s end.
Cam Ward now holds the record for most DI passing touchdowns
Playing in just the first half of the Pop Tarts Bowl, Miami quarterback Cam Ward is now the record-holder for the most Division I passing touchdowns in college football history, thanks to the COVID year of eligibility.
Playing five full seasons, two at Incarnate Word, two at Washington State, and one at Miami, Ward passed 156 passing touchdowns in his college football career. With COVID eligibility now a thing of the past, only extending to the 2020 class of recruits, it may be some time before we see this record fall.
Next stop, top-five pick?
Carson Beck is off to the NFL
Regarding a quarterback from the 2020 recruiting class, Georgia’s Carson Beck had another year of eligibility that he will be foregoing. Beck has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.
This is a questionable decision based on Beck’s play in 2024, but undergoing Tommy John’s surgery last week, there is a chance that Beck may not be able to play in 2025. So he might as well get a paycheck!
The road ahead for Beck would have been hard either way, so there was no easy decision for him to make. If Beck can return to his 2023 form, then some team may get a bargain as the draft stock of Beck is much lower than it was this summer.
What to look forward to this week on Daft on Draft
I wanted to talk about some bowl game action here, but the all-22 is out for a lot of these games, so I have some final charting data coming out over this next week. This also means I can put out full-season analysis on guys like Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, the presumed top quarterbacks in the class.
So keep an eye out for those to start trickling out.
Dalton and I will be back recording four episodes this week as well, starting with Tuesday’s episode getting you ready for the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoffs. We will also do another round of Daft or Draft!?, discuss players 16-20 on our boards, and more this week.
Who knows? I might even drop another mock draft to ring in the New Year.
That’s all for now! As always, I can always be reached on Twitter at fakecorykinnan or on Blue Sky at daftondraft.football.
