Positional Rankings: I disagree quite a bit with the early offensive tackle consensus rankings

I don't love this offensive tackle class, to be honest.

We’re back with another group of positional rankings!

This time, I stack up LSU’s Jordan Seaton, Texas’s Trevor Goosby, Iowa’s Trevor Lauck, and the other offensive tackles in this 2027 NFL Draft class. And what I found from my studies of this class and from looking over the positional rankings of others, the current early consensus board, and more, is that I have some pretty strong disagreements with how I line up with them.

I have always been a person who scouts and ranks with my eyes, and not so much with what the consensus says. I am not afraid to be wrong and learn from it. That’s the great part about summer scouting, however: none of these guys have played a single game in the 2026 season yet, and my mind is open to being changed!

So, let’s dig into this offensive tackle class and how I see it through summer scouting.

The Criteria

As I’ve done with every other positional rankings piece, we start off here by talking a bit about what I look for when scouting the position. I break down every position into five key categories (primarily to make the content more consumable and not get too in the weeds).

Each of these categories carries a specific weight, and it is not a 20% split across the board. For example, for offensive linemen, obviously play strength is a component I am valuing far more than some of the others.

For offensive tackles specifically, these five key categories are:

  1. Pass Protection/Balance

  2. Hand Usage

  3. Play Strength

  4. Lower Half Tools

  5. Football Acumen
