Last week, I hit a full breakdown of new Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker and what he brings to the Big 12 after a stellar season. I tested out a new summer format for my quarterback evaluations as well, wrapping the Weighted On-Target Percentage ball placement and accuracy charting profile, live charting video breakdown, and scouting report into the same article.
So, that’s what we do here as well with Notre Dame Redshirt Sophomore quarterback CJ Carr.
The grandson of legendary Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, there is obviously a ton of prestige that the Notre Dame quarterback carries with him. A four-star recruit out of high school, Carr was heavily recruited, but opted for the Fighting Irish over the likes of his grandfather’s old stomping grounds, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and more.
And after winning the starting job a year ago over Kenny Minchey as a Redshirt Freshman, Carr went on to have a successful 2025 campaign. But did he put enough on tape to truly be considered among the top quarterbacks in the 2027 class in his one season of starting experience?
As we’ve done for the other quarterbacks in this class, here is a video breakdown of one game of Carr, a full ball placement and accuracy charting profile, a scouting report, and overall thoughts on the Notre Dame quarterback.
Enjoy!

Injury History
Was shut down in September of 2024, serving as the third-string quarterback behind Riley Leonard and Steve Angeli, due to discomfort in his throwing elbow. He was iced for six weeks for this injury. He was fully cleared and 100% ready to go by 2025 Spring practices, and the injury did not require surgery.
